Wei Ling Chang grew up in Taiwan under martial law and was cajoled into moving to America by her parents with promises of finding gold on the streets. She fell in love with storytelling at the age of seven after accidentally watching a bootleg DVD of \u201cThe Shining\u201d thinking it had cartoons \u2014 which explains her sweet spot for twisty tales with dark humor. Her directorial feature mystery thriller, “The Unlikely Girl,” premiered at Vancouver International Film Festival<\/strong> and was distributed by Netflix<\/strong>. She currently works as a writer on CBS’s<\/strong> “NCIS: Origins.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is a fellow of Paramount Writers Mentoring Program<\/strong>, and an alum of Ryan Murphy\u2019s Half Initiative <\/strong>Directing Program and Sundance Episodic TV Lab<\/strong>. In 2023, she was named one of eight directors for Blackmagic Collective’s Future Women of TV. She\u2019s worked in mini-rooms led by\u00a0Veena Sud<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jessica Mecklenburg<\/strong>, and has been mentored by\u00a0Graham Yost, Marti Noxon,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Corinne Brinkerhoff<\/strong>.\u00a0She shadowed\u00a0Michael Uppendahl<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Netflix’s<\/strong>\u00a0“Hollywood” and\u00a0Rodrigo Garcia<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Showtime’s<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThe Affair,” and\u00a0wrote\u00a0the action thriller screenplay \u201cIron Mom\u201d for producer\u00a0Jason Blumenthal<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0Escape Artists<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cThe Upside,\u201d \u201cThe Equalizer\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wei Ling’s career began in unscripted TV and documentary. As writer\/director, she’s attempted to solve crimes alongside homicide detectives on A&E’s<\/strong> crime series \u201cThe First 48,\u201d survived Supermax prison inmates on A&E’s<\/strong> documentary \u201cMax ER,\u201d and learned to blast buildings (legally of course) on Discovery’s<\/strong> science show \u201cThe Detonators.\u201d Her award-winning horror short “Aunt Tigress” screened at Sitges, Comic-Con, Puchon,<\/strong> and Cannes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She holds a psychology BA from Cornell University and is a proud member of the Auntie Sewing Squad, a team of WOC volunteers formed during the pandemic to address mask shortages in underserved communities. To date, she has produced one genetically perfect human girl and is quitting while she’s ahead. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
